Hi Guys! In words I am going to try to take you on the journey of us buying and renovating our 1999 Vickings popup camper! I had so much fun with this project, It probably is my favorite so far!.
Here is what we started with, everything was really fancy fabrics, green and wood. Attractive right!
The next picture is the sofa sleeper that originally came in our pop up. I really wanted to take this out completely and put a new one in, but I was trying to be very cost savvy on this project especially since we only paid $200 for the whole pop up. So I read a lot of tutorials on painting fabric and thought what could it hurt, if I ruined it I would just get a new one like i wanted anyway. So I got a can of rustoleum chalked in linen white and did one layer. I rolled it on with a little smooth finish roller. I did one layer and I was amazed at it’s coverage. After the first layer dried I took 120 grit sand paper block and sanded over the whole entire surface. It made it very smooth to the touch. Then I did a second coat and sanded again. I am still amazed at how well it turned out I painted my dining top cushions as well. Painting them almost turns the fabric into a vinyl feeling so you can wipe it off easily. I love love love them!. I would recommend doing it to any one! I get the question all the time, really white?? But with every thing painted you can wipe it right down with no worries!
The floor that I used was also pretty inexpensive, I got the peel and stick vinyl planks from lowes, they are sold by each piece, they are $1.29 each and I think I used 30 pieces. If I can do this guys, you can too. It was so easy to do, and the outcome is so pretty. It makes such a huge difference in our pop up. I feel like the new floor was a huge game changer.
When we originally got this pop up we had to replace the piece of wood in the picture below because the sink must have leaked and ruined that whole piece of wood that was under the sink. That was the hardest part about this project.
The floor stencil! I love love love the floor stencil! I have used this floor stencil so many times. I used this in my house, we have used it on some walls, and now we are doing it in our campers lol!. I thought this was a nice transition to make the dinette area look a little bit separated. I primed the floor with the kitchen and bath kilz, Then I painted with some grab and go wal mart latex paint, (honestly because I already had it in the house) Then I stenciled it up with some black paint.
The table legs, the cute good will find lamp and all the hard ware I sprayed with rustoleum metallic Gold spray paint.
For the curtains, I don’t know if you could see in the before pictures but there was valances and curtains around the whole entire camper. I took all of them down and they were hung by these little clips on a track. I cut off all of the clips off of the old curtains and glued them onto these knew curtains with some good old E6000 glue. This glue is the bomb.com for real! I love it. I did cut these curtains to length and then sewed the bottom of them, but in the package of the curtains they were meant to be cut to size so it came with glue on hem strips where you could cut them to size and then fold where you would have sewed it but instead of sewing it you just iron those strips in the hem. Thinking back on this project that probably would have been way easier! lol.
The newest addition to our pop up was this light over our kitchen table. I love the way it looks and thought that this area needed a little pretty pretty for the space. I used a swag light kit from amazon you can choose pretty much any color, I just did black and the dome part is a food dome from home goods, I just loved the way that it looked, and it even had a little loop to hang from, It was like it was made for this! lol! This is not the exact dome but here is one that is similar to the one I used below, That one is pretty salty in price, I paid $10 for the one I found at home goods.
And of course you have to have your happy camper sign!! For All and all with a little bit of labor you can transform your camper for not that much money.
All paint- $70 (kilz, latex paint, chalk paint, metallic gold spray paint and black paint)
Floors- $65 peel and stick vinyl planks
Light swag kit & dome- $25
Floor stencil- $20
Curtains- Ikea 3 sets $45
So for around $250 you can renovate a pop up camper, That is not for any of the decor, Honestly since I have to take every thing out of it every time we are done camping I just bring all of my stuff from inside my house and decorate it lol!.
You guys! One last thing that I have to share with you! I took before and after pictures of this spray that I bought to clean our canvas and I am seriously amazed! When we bought our pop up there was a huge stain on one of the sides of the beds, but I sprayed RMR-86 mildew spray on it and right before my eyes it was completely gone. I literally watched it fade away. I am still amazed! If you have a pop up I feel this is a product that is a must have!
I hope you guys have enjoyed seeing my pop up transformation
