How I renovated my pop up camper All the details!

D I Y, S U M M E RRobin Saylor

Hi Guys! In words I am going to try to take you on the journey of us buying and renovating our 1999 Vickings popup camper! I had so much fun with this project, It probably is my favorite so far!.

Here is what we started with, everything was really fancy fabrics, green and wood. Attractive right!

We started just scrubbing everything down. If it had a surface we scrubbed it down with some good old dawn dish soap and warm water. Then we went on to primering everything cabinets, floor, tables, counters. I used Kilz kitchen & bath (linked below) Kilz original is fine too but the kitchen and bath primer I have used a lot and I love it. When I say I primed everything I literally almost primed everything lol. I started with all of the cabinets, then I primed the counter tops, table I also primed the dinette area floor. Then I did 2 coats of white latex paint on everything, cabinets, floor, and counter tops & table. On the counter tops and table I did a coat of epoxy which is a two part deal but I feel like it needed that extra protection because of the heavy traffic that they get. That was a little bit intense to do, if you’ve never done it before make sure you read the instructions. I do love how they turned out with the epoxy on them. It finishes like a glass finish.

The next picture is the sofa sleeper that originally came in our pop up. I really wanted to take this out completely and put a new one in, but I was trying to be very cost savvy on this project especially since we only paid $200 for the whole pop up. So I read a lot of tutorials on painting fabric and thought what could it hurt, if I ruined it I would just get a new one like i wanted anyway. So I got a can of rustoleum chalked in linen white and did one layer. I rolled it on with a little smooth finish roller. I did one layer and I was amazed at it’s coverage. After the first layer dried I took 120 grit sand paper block and sanded over the whole entire surface. It made it very smooth to the touch. Then I did a second coat and sanded again. I am still amazed at how well it turned out I painted my dining top cushions as well. Painting them almost turns the fabric into a vinyl feeling so you can wipe it off easily. I love love love them!. I would recommend doing it to any one! I get the question all the time, really white?? But with every thing painted you can wipe it right down with no worries!

The floor that I used was also pretty inexpensive, I got the peel and stick vinyl planks from lowes, they are sold by each piece, they are $1.29 each and I think I used 30 pieces. If I can do this guys, you can too. It was so easy to do, and the outcome is so pretty. It makes such a huge difference in our pop up. I feel like the new floor was a huge game changer.

When we originally got this pop up we had to replace the piece of wood in the picture below because the sink must have leaked and ruined that whole piece of wood that was under the sink. That was the hardest part about this project.

The floor stencil! I love love love the floor stencil! I have used this floor stencil so many times. I used this in my house, we have used it on some walls, and now we are doing it in our campers lol!. I thought this was a nice transition to make the dinette area look a little bit separated. I primed the floor with the kitchen and bath kilz, Then I painted with some grab and go wal mart latex paint, (honestly because I already had it in the house) Then I stenciled it up with some black paint.

The table legs, the cute good will find lamp and all the hard ware I sprayed with rustoleum metallic Gold spray paint.

For the curtains, I don’t know if you could see in the before pictures but there was valances and curtains around the whole entire camper. I took all of them down and they were hung by these little clips on a track. I cut off all of the clips off of the old curtains and glued them onto these knew curtains with some good old E6000 glue. This glue is the bomb.com for real! I love it. I did cut these curtains to length and then sewed the bottom of them, but in the package of the curtains they were meant to be cut to size so it came with glue on hem strips where you could cut them to size and then fold where you would have sewed it but instead of sewing it you just iron those strips in the hem. Thinking back on this project that probably would have been way easier! lol.

The newest addition to our pop up was this light over our kitchen table. I love the way it looks and thought that this area needed a little pretty pretty for the space. I used a swag light kit from amazon you can choose pretty much any color, I just did black and the dome part is a food dome from home goods, I just loved the way that it looked, and it even had a little loop to hang from, It was like it was made for this! lol! This is not the exact dome but here is one that is similar to the one I used below, That one is pretty salty in price, I paid $10 for the one I found at home goods.

And of course you have to have your happy camper sign!! For All and all with a little bit of labor you can transform your camper for not that much money.

All paint- $70 (kilz, latex paint, chalk paint, metallic gold spray paint and black paint)

Epoxy- $25

Floors- $65 peel and stick vinyl planks

Light swag kit & dome- $25

Floor stencil- $20

Curtains- Ikea 3 sets $45

So for around $250 you can renovate a pop up camper, That is not for any of the decor, Honestly since I have to take every thing out of it every time we are done camping I just bring all of my stuff from inside my house and decorate it lol!.

You guys! One last thing that I have to share with you! I took before and after pictures of this spray that I bought to clean our canvas and I am seriously amazed! When we bought our pop up there was a huge stain on one of the sides of the beds, but I sprayed RMR-86 mildew spray on it and right before my eyes it was completely gone. I literally watched it fade away. I am still amazed! If you have a pop up I feel this is a product that is a must have!

I hope you guys have enjoyed seeing my pop up transformation!

Okay so here is a little before and after action. Everyone who knows me knows I love my weekend projects! This is one that I was so excited to do. I do not get these weekends very much where I actually accomplish what intend to but I was on it this weekend. Having three kids sometimes really puts a wrench in your plans lol. This is one of those projects that looks like a lot of work went into it, but it was not bad at all. Putting the chair rail up made the wall paper job super easy because I had such a short amount of space to do, then throw some paint on and put some covers on and there ya have it.

IMG_1857.jpeg

Here is the before picture. The main things I did was add some chair rail, which is surprisingly very easy to do and leaves such a finished look. Added wall paper, and stained the bench all one color to match the table. The bench, I built last year and I thought that I would love it two toned but It just wasn’t working for me. Doing it all one color made me love it so much more! Also I got these chair covers on amazon and they are awesome. They are a universal fit and they fit so snug they look like they are just part of the chairs, And they are cheap! 4 covers for $34 or 6 for $44😱 In the link below it will take you to the exact ones that I bought you can choose 4 or 6. If you do a general search you can spend hours looking, -That is what I did ha.

Mr. Sandy really wanted to be photographed! I swear he poses for pictures! 😻 I love him! Do any of your cats love to be in pictures. I thought that it was a little weird at first but he is so cute I love that he pops his little head in for a quick shot!

The true piece to resistance is the mirror! I wanted a large round mirror for the longest time and finally my sister cracked for Christmas and got it for me!! I was so so happy I went back to my child years getting all excited like Santa came just for me!! Sometimes my kids just catch me standing at the island gazing into the dining room in la la land 😂 I wonder what they think sometimes! Actual no I do not, I would probably get my feelings hurt!

Fireplace Reno / Home Decor / Before and after / house made home

Hey guys! I am finally getting around to getting my Fireplace Reno up on the blog! I am going to share lots of pics of before and afters! I love the way that it looked before but I live in a trilevel and I can always use more storage. I have seen some of the most amazing fireplace renovations and just knew I could utlize my space better. Here is a before picture of my fire place . Just a standard 1970’s brick fireplace.

I painted the whole thing white, and I actually really liked it but I wanted a space that I could store wood. So my mind automatically went to a built in style. Then I made the mistake of Pinteresting fire place Reno’s and man, there is a lot of talent out there #amirightladies

Loved those bats

So this is the Pinterest inspiration that I found and fell in love with. I loved the clean lines and simple look and of corse the white.

IMAGE.JPG

I also loved the idea of it taken up this whole entire wall. It makes such a statement now.

IMAGE.JPG

there was a lot of framing involved, I mean a lot, and a lot of kids twirling on their heads 😂

IMAGE.JPG

Getting close!! The built in part on the left is for wood storage!!! I was so excited to actually have a place to store wood. So at any time we could just leisurely make a fire.

All finished! I started this project exactly a week before it had to be done because I wanted to take our Christmas pictures in front of it. Let me tell you, I did that intentionally so I would actually get it done and finish it. And work on it even if I wanted to quit. That is some commitment, I was actually very aggravated I did that to myself at the time 😂 But I am so happy it is done, I love it!

That is it. It was a pretty fun project, especially going back and looking at the befores.

Robin's House tour

HOUSE TOURSTracy & Robin13 Comments

Here is my house tour! (this is Robin by the way) I figured I would start out with some before and afters of when we first bought our house! We have come a long way! After I put these collages together I realized that we really have done a lot!

before and after 2small.jpg

So Here is the Actual start of my House tour!. This is my Living room slash Kitchen area. Before, I am still searching for a picture but there use to be a wall separating the two and as soon as we moved in we figured the wall had to go! It is made it so nice for us to all enjoy our time together in one big room. I have come to the conclusion that back in the 70's they really liked there walls!

This is The Beauty Shop!

I did in the past go to Douglas J. Aveda Institute and got my license, and since I solely do signs now I figured I needed my own space to still enjoy the art of doing hair!. We have made a lot of use out of this room since there are so many girls in my family this is our spot to come down and relax while I do all the work! Haha just kidding I love it down here as well! Behind the curtains is our sewing/craft room! But we had a lot of stuff going on back there so I thoughtI would spare your eyes the mess!

Here is just one lonely picture of my bathroom but, I love waking up to this it gives me motivation for the day =] I have a lot of updating to do in here so someday I will have before and after pics on here of this!

Here's my Bedroom. These two pictures I love so much, one is painted by my mom and one is painted by me. They are copies of the blue nude by Picaso.  Although they are very different from his (because he was amazing) but we though we would give it a try! =]

Whitney's Room. I just love her room, a lot of times I will just go in there and lay on the bed and stare at how cute it is! This room has so many things that people bought for her and were able to display in her room, She has done so much healing after losing Ryan she was just what our family needed as she is the first grandchild on my side of the family. She also joined into my niece's and nephews on Isaac's side of the family (my husband). Another cool thing, when I was pregnant for her my two sister in laws were also pregnant with babies as well so she has some very very close cousins!

Isaac & Cole's Bedroom. I had so much fun decorating this room for them. It is a tiny room but we managed to fit so much in here for them! I love the tribal theme that people are coming out with and I just had to have a little bit of it in my house! The closet did end up having a dresser in it for Cole, but I did some extra little things in there so they can still hang some stuff up! I do still want to add some more storage components in there but for now this is what it is! =] Also when we first moved in the little door in his room really creeped me out but now I love it the outside of the door is a chalk board so the kids can write on it and they play in there all the time. They Love it!

Well that is the end of my house tour! I hope you enjoyed and leave some feedback I am always up to doing something new! Thank you for looking!

Come see up the Wicker Houses 6th link party! =] Get inspired!
